We recently celebrated the 49th UAE National Day (celebrated over a 5-day weekend) and all I can say is “WOW!” The extraordinary light displays and festivities really made it a celebration to remember, even in the midst of COVID-19. Everyone was, of course, reminded to stay vigilant and take safety precautions to limit transmission of the virus. Outdoor activities seemed to be especially popular.
Although some Emirates were unable to return to the UAE for the celebration, due to COVID-19, they no doubt marked the day wherever they were. Celebrations literally reached around the world as Emirates Airlines celebrated the UAE National Day across 6 continents.
And how is this for marking the holiday? A UAE Earth-observation satellite, called FalconEye 2, was launched from French Guiana. And even Google joined in on the celebration with a special Google Doodle.

When we reflect on the last 49 years, it is truly amazing the things that have been accomplished over a relatively-short time frame. I’m already looking forward to next year’s celebration, which will be the 50th. In a post-COVID era (we hope!), the sky will be the limit–literally!
