The Al Gaffal Dhow Race for the category of 60 feet local sailing ships is a traditional sailing race designed to honour the pearl divers and is held annually under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister Finance.
The Al Gaffal Traditional 60ft Dhow Race, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, kicks off on May 23 from Sir Bu Nuair Island towards the first finish line off Dubai??s shores through the finish line in the Moon Island.The event is expected to witness the participation of more than 100 ships carrying more than 2000 sailors.
People can watch all the on water stunts of the dhows with their hulls and crisp sails from ashore or from specially chartered Dubai Ferry rides. The ferry rides include food and beverages and they begin and end with the race.For the third year in a row, the RTA is selling tickets to watch the traditional dhow race from the Dubai Ferry on 23rd May.People interested can contact RTA for the tickets.
