Fujairah Fort was built in 1670 whereas others say construction occurred about 1800, according to sources in Internet. This fort is considered to be one of the oldest standing fort in UAE. It is a majestic mud brick castle with a square gate tower, three round towers and high walls. Now a member of Fujairah's ruling family has made it his mission to document as much as is possible about a building that once housed his ancestors and played host to weddings and executions, according to The National.
This fort was occupied by wahabbists from 1808 until the local tribes won it back in 1810. It was bombarded by the British in 1925 during confrontation with the then Fujairah ruler.
The fort was fully renovated in 2000. As per the recent news, it was opened to the public in December 2010.
