Bullfighting in Fujairah
Bullfighting is a traditional sport in Fujairah.It is different from the Spanish bullfighting. Here the bulls lock their horns and fight until one falls down or runs away.Only the participant are aware of the rules of the game. Bullfighting also takes place on alternate Fridays, in the corniche near the roundabout Kalba.
Souks (markets) in Fujairah
The famous Friday Market, which is after Masafi, functions everyday from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. It sells local pottery, rugs, plants, toys, fruits and vegetables. Bargaining would be necessary as the prices will be competitive. There are 2 smaller souks in Fujairah one of which is opposite the fish and vegetable souk and the other Souk in Al Bidya. All the souks are worth visiting.
Al Bidyah Mosque in Fujairah
Al Bidyah mosque is located between Khorfakkan and Dibba and it is close to the coastal town of Al Bidyah, which has historical features. It is located around 38 kms north of Fujairah, about 7 kms to Khorfakkan and 25 kms south of Dibba. Studies have shown that the mosque was built sometime in 1446 and hence it is the oldest mosque in the UAE.
Fujairah Museum is a small but a modern building which is located near Fujairah Fort. There are many artifacts in the museum, which was found during the archaeological excavations in Qidfa, Bithnah and elsewhere. The museum has 2 sections. One is the Archeology and the other is Ethnography. Working Hours : 8:30 a.m – 1:30 pm && 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Saturdays are holidays.
Heritage Village in Fujairah
Heritage Village has traditional houses and fishing boats. The Village portrays the traditional life that existed in the Eastern Coast. We can also see the kitchen utensils, farm tools and other things that were used in the olden days. Even the Al Yazrah well system that was used to irrigate the fields still exists there and is operating well.
Fujairah Fort the best known fort among the several forts exists in Fujairah. It was Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamdan al-Sharqi who built the fort at Al Hayl sometime in the year 1932. Sheikh Abdullah had lived there until 1958. Bithnah fort which was built sometime after 1745, has protected the way through the Hajar mountains via Wadi Ham since the 18th century.
