Carpooling in Dubai

Do you want to join carpooling?? Carpooling is an initiative promoted by Dubai government to reduce overall traffic congestion on the roads of Dubai. It is the shared use of a car especially for commuting to work and often by people who each have a car but travel together to save cost, to reduce driving stress, and to promote other socio-environmental benefits.

Hefty fines are issued for illegal carpooling.The ??illegal passenger transfer? violation carries a fine of Dh4,000. The fine is increased to Dh5,000 if not paid within 15 days.

Anyone can carpool in Dubai,but you have to fulfill certain criteria set by RTA and can be done through the website Sharekni. According to RTA guidelines,car driver can take up to 4 passengers in their car.Registeration is free and valid for 6 months. After that, you can renew the registration free of cost.

Passengers can also register their name on Sharekni,so that they can find a carpool driver who may be commuting in same direction.

Steps to register in Sharekni

  • Go to www.sharekni.ae and click New user
  • Fill in the application and submit it.
  • You will receive an email to the provided email address, to confirm your registration, click on the provided link to complete the application
  • Make sure to provide accurate information in order to successfully register

Once you have registered successfully,you will get a confirmation from RTA. Carpool drivers please make a note to keep the printout of the confirmation in the car and  show to RTA/Dubai Police official in case of random checks.

After registering,both drivers and passengers can be searched via “Quick search” in the website.
