Childproof your home in Dubai

Jan 7, 2013 by serah

When having kids around, it becomes a necessity to make sure that their surroundings are by all means safe. Here are some tips on how you can childproof your home.

  1. Keep all the Sharp objects away

Knives, scissors, tools & machinery should be kept away from children's reach. Glass ware or ceramic ware are equally dangerous. In case they break, it can hurt your kids. It is ideal to keep these things locked up. Also use corner or edge bumpers which will prevent the injuries when they fall against sharp edges.

  2. Electrical gadgets & Plug points

It is better to put safety plugs or covers over all the electrical outlets or cover it with furniture. Put the electrical cords behind furniture and use a panel to cover the cords. Keep everr electrical appliance unplugged and keep it out of children's reach.

  3. Away from fires and burns

Kids are generally curious to touch and feel everything, be it a heater and a jug which contains hot liquids. They love to know what is cooking on the stove and even they are interested in stiring it. They are so curious even to play with fire that there is a high chance that there can be a fire burst. Keep them away from everything that is hot. You can even lock up the kitchen that they can't get access to it.

  4. Objects with cause Choking and suffocation

Children have a tendency to put things in their mouth, nose and even ears. If children are in the vicinity of any small objects like beads or even small toys, a parent will have to watch over them with caution. It is ideal to keep away all small objects as there is a high risk of choking. Also keep away all plastic bags as they love to put it over their heads and play and it will cause suffocation. Also remove any wire, telephone cable or any other electrical wire, from anywhere near the children's vicinity as there is a high risk to get entangled.

  5. Closing Doors, windows and Drawers

When children play, they are so careless that they close the door, windows & drawer so hard, that their little fingers get crushed or pinched in it. The best way to prevent this is by using door stops and holders.

  6. Drowning

Never leave your children unattended in the pool or even the bathroom as only a few inches of water can drown your kids.

  7. Dangers caused by Heights

If you reside in an apartment, make sure the windows have guards and children won't fall down. Also please make sure the balcony is tall enough, that your child can't lean over it. If they can, make sure that your the doors to your balcony are closed and safey keep the keys out of their reach.

  8. Unstable furniture

There are chances that children may climb over any furniture and if its happens to be unstable, it may fall over the children. Also heavy things kept at heights which are accessible to kids can cause the same danger.

  9. Keep away chemicals, medicines & poisonous stuff

Please make sure that all chemicals, medicines & any toxic stuffs are kept away from the reach of children and preferably keep it locked up.
