Similar to licensing for doctors, teachers will soon have to be licensed to work in UAE. In addition to the bachelor's degree or equivalent university degree required for teaching at school, they have to attend a course and successfully complete a test to get qualified for the license. This is applicable for expatriate and Emirati teachers at both public and private schools. This is expected to come in effect from next year onwards.
The Ministry of Education undersecretary Marwan Al Sawaleh said,”We will not allow just a normal country’s standard teacher to come and teach our kids, our future leaders. It’s a right for the students and parents to really have very sound, quality teachers certified in the schools.”
Al Sawaleh said that by September or October ,the final draft for the licensing system will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval .If approved, it could be introduced and carried out in stages from the beginning of 2015. A period of one or two years would additionally be offered to give teachers and schools the time to adjust to the new rules.
