Places to visit in Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah emirate is located between the Arabian Gulf and Hajar Mountains. It is an important commercial centre with a business oriented culture. Tourism has gained a lot of prominence as RAK is blessed with natural beauty.

The main attractions include:

Ras Al Khaimah Old City

The oldest residential area with an old souq, old mosque, fishing harbor and Al Hisn Fort.

Ras Al Khaimah National Museum

Formerly this was the residence of the RAK ruler. There is a vast exhibit  and wide collection of shells and other sea shore creatures, pearl diving, date agriculture, fishing, farming, daily equipment, weapons, jewelry, costumes, clothing items, all used in early Islam times. A visit to the  Quwasim room would reveal the British history in RAK.

The Corniche

This is located in Al Qawasim corniche road at al khor. It is a very popular place to carry out shopping. There are good chocolate shop like Fawalah and Opera. It is also good for sport activities like water skiing ,jogging

Dhow Building Station

Dhows are indigenous sailing vessels that have been used to transport goods and passengers to the Arabian Gulf and back. Here the craftsmen still build the Dhows with traditional tools.

Prehistoric Shimal

This is a pre historic site with ancient buildings like Umm an-Nar tombs (2600-2000BC), Wadi Suq tombs (2000-1600BC), a second millennium BC settlement, findings from the Sassanian period (300-632AD) and the Abbasid era (750-1250AD).

Sheeba’s Palace

Here tourists get to see the remains of a 16th century palace.

Wadi Haqil

This is one of the centers of pottery production.

Sha’am

There is a small harbor and numerous rock engravings are found here.

Wadi Bih 

The  Jebel Al Jais Mountain Resort has been constructed here.

Falayah Fort

This fort is famous in history as the  General Treaty of Peace between the British and the local sheiks was signed there. It used to be the summer residence of the sheiks of Ras Al Khaimah.

Khatt Hot Springs

This castle like town lies at the foot of Hajar Mountains. It is an oasis with thermal waters and numerous archaeological sites. The water here has medicinal properties due to its mineral content. The place is very famous for treatment of dermatitis and rheumatic ailments. The resort offers therapeutic hot springs, precious stone treatments, hot stone treatment, and Ayurvedic medicine.

Al Jazirah Al Hamra 

This is the best-preserved fishermen village in the UAE.

Hajar mountains

It slopes directly into the sea with highest point located in the north. The area is known as the ‘Ru’us Al-Jibal’, implying ‘Heads of the Mountains’.

Southern Wadis 

Wadi Asimah, Daftah, Munay’i, Shawka, Qawr, Safarfir – These places are full of prehistoric sites and have preserved scenic beauty without the influence of modernization.

Saqr Park

The most popular park which offers rollercoaster rides, Big Splash ride, halls with electronic games, table tennis courts, shops, the ship and boats area, electronic cars, and shops too. It is located in Ras Al Kamiah in an area called Kieran.

Shopping Malls 

There are four main shopping malls in Ras Al Khaimah namely Manar Mall , RAK Mall , Al Hamra Mall  and Safeer Mall .

  • Camel race track

  • Dhayah
