A labour card is used to identify an employee and his place of work. A labour card should be obtained within 60 days from the date when an employee enters the UAE. The medical examinations should be performed before obtaining the labour card. If there is any delay in obtaining the labour card, it is the responsibility of the employer to pay the penalty. It is important that the employer should not maintain any expired labour cards or licenses. The employer should also make sure that his organization should be free of any violation. The salary of the employee should be at par with his profession in the organization. All the procedures in the organization of the employer should should be as per the rules and regulations of the Ministry.
Documents Needed for getting a New Labour Card
- A passport size photograph of the employee.
- Copy of organizational license. – 1 Copy
- Copy of the entry visa. – 1 Copy
- Health certificates of the employee – Original
- Copy of the signature card – 1 Copy
- Copy of employment contract with the signatures of the employee and the employer and the organization's seal – 3 copies.
A work permit is normally issued for a period of 3 years and it can be renewed for another 3 years, with the consent of the employer as well as the employee. If it has to be renewed, it should be done within 50 days from the expiry date. The employer must pay the costs associated with the employment contract and Labour card. The employer should also pay the penalty for the non-issuance or non-renewal of the labour card within specified the time limit.
