It is really a cumbersome task to find a suitable parking spot in Dubai, especially on weekends. But it will be an easy one as RTA expands its smart parking system that will help motorists locate a vacant spot through their mobile phones.
As part of the Smart Parking pilot project launched last year, parking sensors were installed on a stretch of Shaikh Zayed Road between The Edge Hotel and Shangri-La Hotel which allows motorists to locate a parking spot through the Smart Parking mobile application that was also launched last year.
RTA has now tied with Emaar to have its malls linked with RTA??s smart parking system, expanding the system further.Dubai Mall is the first mall to link its services to the parking app of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Currently RTA is evaluating the response to its pilot project on Shaikh Zayed Road and they are planning to expand the system to other areas.Bur Dubai, Deira, Dubai Marina and Satwa, the most congested areas in Dubai, will be preferred for the next phase.
The features of the Smart Parking app are
- identify parking spots
- find out the number of free parking slots
- calculate the distance between the vehicle and the nearest vacant parking space
- remember where you have parked the car through its location service
With 60,000 downloads and 93,000 transactions per day,the Smart Parking app has now become the favourite of Dubai residents. The app is available for both iOS and android mobile platforms.
